Kingsbury Parish Council

Kingsbury Parish Council first met in January 1895.  In the hundred plus years since, we have built a swimming pool and are the only parish council in the country to have done so.

The civil parish consists of Kingsbury, Hurley, Wood End and Piccadilly.  Smaller settlements include Bodymoor Heath, Cliff and Whateley.

Statement from Kingsbury Parish Council

re Kingsbury Swimming Pool

I have been asked to clarify Kingsbury Parish Councils position with regard to the future of Kingsbury Swimming Pool.  Concerns were raised at our May meeting that recent public opinion of the Parish Council’s role in the swimming pool is not correct.

The swimming pool was originally built by Kingsbury Parish Council and opened in 1972, but was immediately conveyed to Warwickshire County Council who have met the running costs ever since.  We do not own the pool.  We do however, have various slots of time allocated to ‘Parish Use of the Pool’ where we collect any income and then pay this over to WCC just as any other pool users would.

At WCCs February budget meeting the pool funding for the current financial year was withdrawn.  No plans to close the pool at this stage have been made.  There are currently negotiations with third parties taking place to see if the pool can be provided with alternative management and we believe there is a substantial amount of time for this to be thoroughly researched.

No-one on the Parish Council wishes to see the pool close as it would be a great loss to the community and we are liaising with WCC over this matter.  The Parish Council unfortunately could not consider taking over the financial commitment of the pool as it is way beyond our budget.

S Humphries, Clerk to Kingsbury Parish Council

Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action Organisation

Tel: 01827 718080

The Warwickshire CAVA is very active in Kingsbury and all the surrounding villages.

Basically it acts as a sort of umbrella group for anyone who runs (or is thinking of running) any sort of volunteer or community group.  CAVA can advise on setting up a group, staying within the law, getting funding or grants, looking after the books and paperwork, and all the other administrative issues that might arise.

CVS development workers visit Kingsbury regularly, and "outreach" sessions are held in Kingsbury at frequent intervals where people can get free advice.

Tel: 01827 717073

Website:  www.vcnw.org.uk

Acts as a bridge between people who want to help out in their local community and voluntary groups who need new volunteers.  The VC keeps a computerised list of volunteering opportunities throughout North Warwickshire, and makes sure volunteers are properly treated.

A Volunteer Centre worker is in Kingsbury Library every Monday afternoon, but there are details there at all times.
